DukeCreate: Weaving, Decorative Wall Hangings
Please login to enroll in this event.
Reserve your seat in this workshop by enrolling here. If the event is full, you will be added to the waitlist.
About the workshop:
Come make your very own woven wall hanging to decorate your dorm room or apartment. Students will be provided with a mini loom and selection of yarns. The class will work through some simple weaving stitches together and at the end of the workshop students will have a finished weaving to take home—ready to hang!
Looking for a more in-depth weaving experience? Sign up for the Weaving workshops on 3/21 and 3/28. You'll get double the time with your instructor and double the time to make your weaving really special. You'll learn more about the weaving process and get to practice a wider variety of stitches. The extra time will allow for more intentional design choices and for a more polished finish.
Can't make it to both? No problem! Sign up for both workshops or just one and you'll still come out of the workshop with a finished product and a new skill!
About the instructor:
A born and raised Durhamite, Anna Wallace has been getting her hands dirty in clay and other materials since her time at the Durham School of the Arts. She went on to earn her BFA in Ceramics at the Cleveland Institute of Art. The incredibly strong undergraduate program taught Anna the importance of quality and craftsmanship. In order to further inform her practice she supplemented her education with classes at the Penland School of Crafts and spent time in Paris and other European cities studying historical and contemporary art. Anna recently received her MFA at UNC Greensboro. The interdisciplinary program challenged her to think critically about material choices and to strengthen the aesthetic and conceptual issues in her work. Anna now teaches around the Triangle and Triad, including UNCG and the North Carolina Governor's School West.
