DukeCreate Workshop: Textured Wall Pockets

Please login to enroll in this event.

Reserve your seat in this workshop by enrolling here. If the event is full, you will be added to the waitlist.

About the Workshop:
Participants will roll clay into slabs and be instructed on simple joining techniques to turn the slabs into three dimensional forms. Various objects will be used to create texture, patterns and visual interest to your project. Wall pockets make great planters!

The basic techniques for joining clay to clay for successful construction will be covered. We will cover scoring the clay and using slip to make strong seams in our pockets. Participants will have an opportunity to make various clay works and will leave their work to dry and be bisque fired in the kiln. A basic overview of the clay studio will be covered during the workshop.

About the Instructor:
Hello, I’m Lyn Riggs and I have taught art and ceramics for over 20 years. I earned a Ceramics degree at Barton College in Wilson NC and studied wheel throwing and altered forms at Penland School of Crafts. Every time I take a class with other potters I always learn something new and I enjoy sharing those techniques with you. I’ve worked with clay to create functional works and sculpture.

The focus for our workshops is to familiarize you with the steps involved in creating various clay forms. Workshops will either explore wheel throwing or hand building techniques. You will create using clay the evening of the workshop and leave your work to be fired by the Arts Annex staff.
