About the workshop:
In this workshop students will be guided through learning a handful of the basic embroidery stitches - when put together, these stitches can create beautiful and complex imagery. Students will be provided with a small piece of fabric, embroidery hoop, and a selection of embroidery thread. At the end of the workshop students will take home their finished piece which could later be framed as a work of art or sewn on to a piece of clothing like a patch! *Note: due to time it will be helpful if students can come prepared with some simple design ideas.

About the instructor:

A born and raised Durhamite, Anna Wallace has been getting her hands dirty in clay and other materials since her time at the Durham School of the Arts. She went on to earn her BFA in Ceramics at the Cleveland Institute of Art. The incredibly strong undergraduate program taught Anna the importance of quality and craftsmanship. In order to further inform her practice she supplemented her education with classes at the Penland School of Crafts and spent time in Paris and other European cities studying historical and contemporary art. Anna recently received her MFA at UNC Greensboro. The interdisciplinary program challenged her to think critically about material choices and to strengthen the aesthetic and conceptual issues in her work. Anna now teaches around the Triangle and Triad, including UNCG and the North Carolina Governor's School West.
